24/7 Study Area

What?

  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Space for 138 students (first come first served)
  • Safe, secure and comfortable
  • Hourly Jammie Shuttle
  • Access to (via your personal laptop):
    • Wifi
    • WorldCat & Aleph (the online catalogue)
    • Electronic databases
    • Electronic journals (full-text)
    • SACAT (online catalogue of South African libraries)
    • Electronic reference books

Where?

Hlanganini Entrance, North Lane.

Before you head to the 24/7

  • Have all library items issued to you at the loans desk before leaving
  • Up to 21h50 you may access Chancellor Oppenheimer 24/7 (Hlanganani) via the stairs on the Terrace
  • After 21h50 you will be required to exit the library and enter via the Hlanganani Plaza (see map above)
  • Have your student card ready
  • Settle in and study!

Rules for the 24/7 study spaces

  • The library will be cleared and locked down at closing time
  • Any items left in this library when it closes will be removed by security
  • Access via the Hlanganani Plaza
  • Access by valid UCT student card only
  • No group study allowed
  • First come, first served ...
  • Maximum 138 students at any time
  • No food allowed
  • Drinks in spill-proof containers only
  • No smoking
  • Cellphones must be set to silent and no calls may be taken or made
  • Any transgression of the Library Rules may result in suspension, or the withdrawal of use and borrowing privileges, or other penalties at the discretion of the Executive Director: Libraries

BYOD - The 24/7 does not provide any computers, so you must bring your own device. We recommend your device is fully charged as plug space is limited.
